About Lee Hock:
I have always been in love with food. Cooking is my biggest passion.
Most of my childhood memories are centered around food. When I was younger I used to "experiment" in the kitchen, which would drive my mother crazy. I have always been artistic and creative. I always loved drawing and painting as a kid.
When I was a teenager, I became obsessed with baking, which soon led to finding a talent for cake decorating, it was an outlet for me to channel my creative energy.
.
When I started college to become an interior designer, I constantly found myself going back to cooking and baking. That is when I realized it was time to pursue my love of cooking and food.
I attended culinary school for 3 and 1/2 years which was nothing short of fabulous. My specialty was pastries and baking, and after taking a basic cooking course I fell in love with cooking as well.
I met my husband, a.k.a King Hock, at a mutual friend's party. He used to own a gelato shop, and he hired me to be his pastry chef. After working there for a while, we started dating. We quickly fell head over heels in love with each other and got married soon thereafter.
I grew up reform without any idea what keeping kosher was. All I knew was that pork was off limits.
My husband also grew up reform. When he was 17, he started studying with a Hassidic rabbi, and started becoming more religious and keeping kosher shortly thereafter.
Very soon after my Husband and I started dating, he took me to the Rabbi's house for a shabbat dinner. This opened up a whole new world to me, in many aspects. I was very impressed with all of the kosher food they served. I also quickly became fascinated by my religion in which I knew so little.
I had a strong desire to learn more about being jewish all around. I decided to start keeping kosher a few months into our relationship, and it has been a huge learning process.
Having 2 young children and a baby has definitely changed the way I cook. First of all, the obvious, I must make dishes that are quick and easy, no more spending entire days in the kitchen. Second, I don't want to feed my family foods that are ridden with pesticides. I try to buy organic most of the time. Along the same lines, I try to cook healthy and balanced meals.
My kids are incredible because they are willing to try just about anything I make. My husband is always supportive and rarely complains about anything I make.
My other interests include: playing piano, reading novels, spending time with family and friends, traveling, and shopping.
This blog is a way for me to share my love of cooking with anyone and everyone (dishing on delish). I hope to inspire people to cook simple and delicious meals.
